Andros 8 days trekking Self Guided
1st day: Athens
Arrival at Athens airport and transfer to the hotel.
2nd day: Athens - Andros
Transfer by taxi from the hotel to the harbor of Rafina.
We take the boat to Andros and we settle into our hotel.
3rd day: Lamira - Menites
Our first walk takes us through Lamira and Menites.
Through forests of cypress-trees we come to the two villages with small white houses covered with jasmine flowers. In the afternoon we visit the archeological museum in Chora the capital of the island ( with the finds of Palaiopolis and Zagora ), the museum of Modern Art ( one of the best in Greece, founded by the family Goulandris a known family of ship owners ) and then the naval museum. Possibility for a swim. Overnight at the hotel Walking time 3,5 hours, with a lot of water-fountains on the way. Difference of altitude +/- 400 m
4th day: Apikia - Gyalia
From Chora to Apikia and Gyalia. A walk that brings us closer to the local architecture in the countryside, with many small churches on the way and old stone-built bridges. At the end we come to Gyalia with two beautiful beaches to choose from: one is busy with the comfort of a nice taverna and the other one is quiet, away from the noise of the cars. From there we return to Chora. Walking time 5.5 hours
5th day: Synati - Kastro - Kochylou
Andros – Syneti – Site of Kastro – Village of Kochylou – Dipotamata gorge – Port of Korthi This walk follows an old calderimi ( stone paved path ) that was the main way connecting Chora with the port of Korthi. Starting in the area Paraporti the mouth of the river Megalos Potamos ( big river ) it takes us to the beautiful beach of Lydi and to the village of Syneti ( which houses an interesting folklore museum ) and where you can find the best wine on the island. As we continue to the village of Kochylou it is nice to stop at the ancient site of Kastro for the magnificent view and then we continue to the port of Korthi. Walking time 6 hours Difference of altitude + 1000m /-780m.
6th day: Vourkoti - Monastery of Agios Nikolaos – Beach of Achla
Vourkoti - Monastery of Agios Nikolaos – Beach of Achla – Andros From the village of Vourkoti we start our walk and through a beautiful green area we reach first the monastery of Agios Nikolaos, which was founded around 1600 by two monks from the mountain Athos but it was completely renovated in 1757.
From there we continue following old paths surrounded by the typical “andriotic” stone walls down to the beach of Achla, one of the most beautiful ones on the island. Our reward of the day: refreshing swim in the crystal clear water. Walking time 6 hours. Difference of alititude + 300m/ - 730m
7th day: Andros - Rafina
Departure by boat to Rafina.
